A division of CCSAR special teams is Organized Avalanche Response. CCSAR has certified Organized Avalanche Response Team Members and certified Organized Avalanche Response Team Leaders. These members are trained in how to safely respond to avalanche incidents, in potentially unstable terrain. Part of the skills these members have, and practice is includes; wanding, probing, searching and shoveling. Group safety measures, specialized equipment use, and post-rescue duties.
CCSAR members frequently utilize snowmobiles during winter tasks, as well as Helicopters. During every stage of a winter rescue our team works in tandem with a highly trained Avalanche Safety Officer. The Avalanche Safety Officer looks at considerations such as snow pack, weather and will additionally test the snow in the rescue area. These very important steps are done to ensure the safety of everyone responding and those we are there to help.
